I have noticed that the number of online players have dwindled in the past few weeks. Also, the number of the players online don't really represent the actual number of players because of dual clients and macroing. I would love to see the shard grow and maintain a solid player base so any suggestions to create a more interactive and social UO experience would be great! I'm sure the staff here are open to suggestions I started with zh3 and I remember some time during the shards many reforms, GMs created ONE designated no PK/no Loot city. This was the one place players could hang out and show off their cool gear/swag/mounts/ etc etc without the fear of someone/some group waiting to gank them and loot them dry. This also creates a hang out spot where people can macro simple skills, chat, bank, and.. bitch after getting pked I think its great for bringing the shard together and great for keeping people playing. It sad to see almost no player life inside and outside cities aside from their own houses. Anyway, thats my suggestion, what do you guys think?

The average online playerbase hasn't gone up or down, it's stayed where it is. Unfortunately that amount isn't particularly high, that's the problem!
Obviously we staff are all thinking about what we can do to make us more popular. It's like the number 1 priority.
I agree the creation of a no damage zone would be positive and that's on our list of things to do, I have scripts from previous shards that had no damage zones I just haven't been able to get it to work yet/havent' devoted many hours to it either.
It would go against the idea of individual towns across the map and a Faction-type environment, but maybe a period which centralizes all the players on the shard is what we need to build our playerbase?
One problem is that established guilds tend to make their HeadQuarters in Towers far away from any towns. Maybe we should also stop house-building outside of towns and sell lots of staff-created houses inside of towns?

This idea would definitely help new players learn how to play, as well as give them aspirations. What got me really excited when I started zh3 was when I saw the crazy players like Yukmouth and Roadie rocking crazy weapons. Made me want to learn how to play and try to get that strong. Safe towns are a great way to get the community going.

Is this a suggestion to make a city like Britain was on zhc? Where you could still attack but it was no-loot and guarded?
Or is this a suggestion to make a city no-damage?

In my ideas for a safezone I always like the idea of making Minoc Isle (that area where the mine is, between the two bridges) a safezone.
It's clearly delineated between the two bridges, it's the starting point for most players and we can put a banker there.

I was Tubby[ToC] back on Zulu3+ and Trinsic was the best imo for the no pk/loot areas ive ever played, maybe it was just the setup, i seen some shards do occlo but that town sucks XD, speaking of things that wanted to keep me playing, Tubby was a PP, all around character turned crafter lvl 5 and i played a mage level 4 when i went out and did things. But one of the things that made me want to stay was reaching the Ritual level magic, always wanted to try it out and kept playing till i was up high enough, never did before a server wipe and my friends Rellik and Corbo quit after it.
My most memorable memory tho was having Alch, Keiri and Lothian drop by our crafting house and chill on our porch while corbo made poison/explosion boxes, rellik went out and killed people with them, and i lumberjacked just outside. "Best ever was Alch saying "Corbo your kill count has gone up over 50 since we been here and you havent left the house!? How is that possible!?"

also thinking, just came to me thought it might be fun, but maybe a quest system for each classe? like a command "vendor quest"
more of a newb thing maybe but could give low level items related to jobs...
example: "Vendor Quest" (Animal Trainer) Animal Trainer: Actually i do have a job for you, im running short on FireCrows, bring me 3 and ill find a way to pay you.
"Vendor Quest Sell" (Animal Trainer) Reward: After all conditions are met, 500 gold + random chance for +1(tame skill 50 and under) +2 (tame skill 50 to 75) +3(tame skill 75 to 100) any ranger skill item depending on difficulty of quest.
Just make it items they dont sell and have to tame/mine/log/craft/or find depending on vendor.

honestly you could even add events like mobs attacking towns randomly, not GM controlled i mean, and make it so factions need to provide adaquete protection if no players are online to help thier towns, and add some type of consequence if they fail?
could even have leveled waves for strength of mobs, i think i remember seeing a server that had random mob and guard generators for britian but it was a long ass time ago
could even have it so they can invest money towards the town, and the town auto uses the money to hire guards during raids

I like the Quest idea but right now our priorities for the future are, in no particular order: - Implement a no damage safezone on Minoc Isle.
- Automated Faction War scripts based on the Custom Townstones.
- A re-worked House/Boat creation system that relies upon crafters.
- Transition to POL099.

you all have good points, but shouldnt we be looking into the items that everyone wants to use in game but can never find?
i think the loot is horrible for high mobs like balron balrog silver drag and golden. right now you have it so the cerbial therthan or whatever its called (Mr Sunshine) is the best loot. i love how that dungeon is setup. i love how u need a ranger to kill it, and need mages to boost and what not. but the spawn time is horrible! last i knew it was at 6 hours, i dunno if its been changed or not, but i think it should def be dropped to 2 or 3, atleast half the spawn time. when you think about it, most people go to work for 8 hours a day, have to sleep for maybe 5-8 hours, then have 4-6 hours of family and friend stuff then maybe 2-4 hours of ultima. We could def use another dungeon that was just as hard as this new one that sith built but for other class, maybe at the end make another mob that is immune to magic and arrows, and can only be speared or cut down, but make him hit super hard and fast but same loot. or immune to physical dmg and can only kill him with magic. maybe make him or her, immune to earth magic and have to use a necro book or necro scrolls some how.
ya know ive been trying to hunt to build up some sort of set to atleast play dressup again or make a better stand against kitty and them, there already stacked like arnold on venice beach. and u cant keep up with that if u cant get to the mob that drops the blackrock and assasins weps as well as el furys.
and FYI the arch angel and nemisis loot is sooooo bad. obviously we cant have all mobs loot like the sunshines, and every hour. it would be extremely fun.
but there is no fune hunting all day clearing everything 4 times, still not seeing ther sunshine at all. then iding all 13 bags of items and get complete crap
thats where im at i dunno about other people but i hate this loot so much.

imho loot is quite ok with boosted loot it would be 1st age all over again - every1 have stygian devas, lvl6 prots and gm lvl boost items loot could be even scaled down a bit, currently like hell overpowered rangers kills everything anyway in just couple of shots even without mods
