I think we should do a few things. And only these things.
1. Allow razor.
2. Allow dual clients.
3. Allow recalling everywhere except dungeons.
4. Safezone minoc mines/make it no damage, and not able to cast.
1. Shards today use razor. This is a new era of UO and quite frankly I don't see any reason why we should not be able to use it. This isn't real life, and I don't want to be told "life's not fair" so don't even think about using that argument. There's no point in macroing the hard way with uoap, and allowing razor will encourage pvp.
2. People want to be able to train multiple characters. Everyone wants this except for the staff, so I have no idea why its not being allowed. It inflates the player numbers and makes the shard more lively. The past arguments were that everyone will just be macroing. Well that's what they're going to be doing anyways. Staff doesn't constantly code for the server, and players don't constantly play.
3. I agreed with the no recalling at first, but after playing it a little, I don't really like it. Everyone basically has to stay in minoc, you can't fish and then run back to town, too heavy, you can't mine and then run back to town, and if you mine in town you will get pk'd. Using pack horses doesn't work, you mine/fish overnight and they just run away. Quite frankly, I don't want to run everywhere. I don't want to run to my house, and I don't want to run to the hunting spots. I like the idea not being able to instant recall away, so I would disable recalling in dungeons, and I would put the best spawns on lvl 2-3.
4. Crafters can't mine anywhere else because there is no recalling and they are heavy, so might as well make minoc mines safe zoned. People are going to say no I want to pk them. Well sorry but this just isn't going to work. I have already pk'd 2 crafters on this server and I'm just thinking, this is stupid. They stand no chance, its annoying and harassing.
Other then these changes, I like a somewhat restricted recalling system, I like the factions idea, I like not having any TOWN safe zones. People want zulu hotel, removing recalling is simply not allowing zulu hotel. I don't think you're going to get a player base large enough to be compatible or interesting with an entire map you can't recall on. People will identify with towns, because they had to spend ridiculous amounts of money to make them theirs, not because they are forced to stay in them.
I don't think the staff is going to like these ideas, but I think you are going to hear the players ask for these 4 ideas time and time again. So for the love of god, why don't you just listen to the players.
