What skill is smelting checking? I seem to be able to make cutlasses but I sure as hell cannot smelt them. Whatever the skill check is it seems high, as you need to be able to smelt to train BS efficiently at any level.

Buy a pair of tongs from a tinker vendor, or tinker some, then double click the tongs, click the item and select a forge.
