Was doing some stealing the other day and was thinking it would be nice if thieves could have something similar to what rangers have in the way of sos bottles. Not really thought it through but a few ideas to get a discussion started: - level of map is random like sos.
- Maybe only steal-able from a thief npc or maybe the level of map is dependent on the difficulty of the person snooped.
- Could call it "sealed message" (or something equally as mysterious ^_^) and can only be opened by lockpicking (would give lockpicking some purpose).
- The location could be somewhere hard to get to like the the bottom of a dungeon or an unused dead end. Possibly in the lost lands in an orc fort or somewhere with lots of npc's.
- snooping on the ground or on a tree or a rock could open it "you have found a secret compartment".
- Could have the messages rare with alright -> good loot and regular spots like tmaps, or common with crap -> good loot and lots of randoms spots like sos bottles.

Sounds like an interesting idea. Looking forward to see what others think.

looking at all the handouts rangers and mages get I may finish with my thief. 500 reags and bottles and 1k arrows where as we get 5 poison pots and 8 lockpicks on an npc.
not very fair

Off Topic: He doesn't 'rip topics apart' per se. He just shows his ignorance off to us all.
Back to the topic at hand; I love the idea, goes hand in hand with my suggestion earlier actually. Together the two topics might actually make macroing a thief worth a damn.

What was your idea? Link to it or quote or something.
I would like to see some more interesting and useful reasons for having the thief class. Especially as it's such a pain in the arse to train multiple characters. I've hardly got enough time to make one char as it is.
Also, I'm only messing with payne. I might actually tell him who I used to be if I decide to carry on playing and be a bit more active here. Seems a bit too quiet to bother with :-(

Slightly off topic but I'd like to follow up my last post by saying that I'm loving some of the features on this shard. - I know the player run towns was always one of prometheus' favorite ideas. Glad to see it up and running.
- Love the no recalls idea. If there were more people it would work well but we're literaly a little too thin on the ground for it to be any good atm.
- The new regional resources sound like a cool idea but not seem much about them yet.
Really does need more people on here though or it's going to fizzle out. Back on topic. Do the staff have any opinions on the 'thief sos' idea or on the quantities of thief related things that npc's sell?

This is actually my main concern at the moment, with the restricted recalling system we need like over 100 players online before we allow player towns to be built, that's something I know now that I didn't think about when we started. Hopefully we can address this at the start of the 2nd Age.
I think it's a good idea, and easily edited, but low priority at the moment.

Could you boost sales of lockpicks and poison pots to help us noob thieves seeing as though rangers and mages get an easy ride?
I'm guessing that's just a case of adding a few 0's to a number in a cfg file somewhere.
